2 El estándard Comparisons 4.1- Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparison of the language studied and their own Essential Question- How are possessive adjectives used similarly and differently in English and in Spanish?

3 What are possessive adjectives? Possessive adjectives are adjectives that show possession. In other words, something that belongs to somebody. Here are some possessive adjectives in English: my your his/her our their

4 Adjetivos posesivos owner is thing possessed isthing possessed is singularplural I ( Yo ) mimis You (tú) tutus Él, Ella, Ud. susus we (nosotros) nuestro,anuestros,as They (Uds.) susus REMEMBER: “Ustedes” is you plural as well!

5 Just like in English, Possessive adjectives are always placed BEFORE the nouns they modify mi amigotu mochila

6 OJO! In Spanish, possessive adjectives must agree in GENDER and NUMBER with the nouns they modify Ex. nuestro carro vs. nuestros carros

7 OJO! Because su and sus have multiple meanings (his, her, your, its, their), you can avoid confusion by using this construction: [article] + [noun] + de + [subject pronoun] El hermano de él/ella his/her brother El hermano de Ud./Uds. your brother El hermano de ellos/ellas their brother

8 POR EJEMPLO... mi coche Su coche está enfrente de su casa. Su coche es viejo pero funciona muy bien.

9 Por ejemplo otra vez... Son mis abuelos Mis abuelos son viejos, mi abuelo tiene ochenta y ocho años y mi abuela tiene ochenta y cuatro años. Mi abuela cocina muy bien. ¿ Quiénes son estas personas?
