2 To conjugate regular –AR verbs
*VOSOTROS is mostly used in Spain / UDS. is used in Latin America (WE will use UDS. in this class!) Yo -o -amos Nosotros(as) -- we Tú -as -áis Vosotros(as)- You (pl) Él, ella, Usted -a -an Ellos(as) -- they Ustedes – you (pl.)

3 Example: Hablar – to talk/speak
Yo hablo hablamos Nosotros(as) Tú hablas habláis Vosotros(as) Él, ella, usted habla hablan Ellos(as), ustedes

4 To conjugate regular –ER verbs
Yo -o -emos Nosotros(as) Tú -es -éis Vosotros(as) Él, ella, usted -e -en Ellos(as), ustedes

5 Example: Correr – to run
Yo corro corremos Nosotros(as) Tú corres corréis Vosotros(as) Él, ella, usted corre corren Ellos(as), ustedes

8 What are they? Possessive adjectives express ownership of things and people. Por ejemplo: Es mi dinero. (It’s my money.) Ellos son sus maestros. (Those are his teachers.)

9 Connecting with Prior Knowledge:
Like other Spanish adjectives, possessive adjectives always agree in GENDER and sometimes NUMBER with the noun they describe. Ejemplo: las chicas bonitas la mujer bonita

10 Unlike other Spanish adjectives, however, possessive adjectives go directly before the noun they describe. Es mi gata. (It’s my cat.) Son mis gatas. (They are my cats.)

15 OJO: Nuestro(a) and Vuestro(a) agree in gender AND number with the nouns they describe! Poss. adjs. come directly before the noun; the use of the article is NOT necessary. Ejemplo: Es mi teléfono. Avoid saying: Es mi el teléfono.

16 How do I clarify between his/her and their?
Use: NOUN + de + PERSON Ejemplo: Es su abuela. OR Es la abuela de Juan. Es la abuela de Anita. Es la abuela de ellos. How do I clarify between his/her and their?

17 When discussing your family you may also want to use indefinite articles.
Por ejemplo: Tengo un hermano. Mi hermano tiene siete años. (I have a brother. My brother is seven years old.) AVOID saying, “Tengo el hermano.” Keep in mind!
