2 Unit 1B: Labolengua © Oxford University Press 2012 A The imperfect tense – ‘used to’ This past tense is used to talk about what you used to do. It is also used to say what was happening in the past. Llevaba vaqueros, pero ahora Ilevo un traje. I used to wear jeans, but now I wear a suit.

In Zoom 1 you learned how to compare things: El centro comercial es barato pero el mercado es más barato. The shopping centre is cheap but the market is cheaper. In English some adjectives add -est to show ‘the most’ of something, e.g. cheapest, shortest, funniest. In Spanish you just use el más.

The style from the seventies is the most ridiculous. Feminine singular:La tienda de segunda mano es la más barata. The charity shop is the cheapest. Masculine plural:Los grandes almacenes son los más anticuados. The department store is the most old-fashioned. Feminine plural: Las botas negras son las más caras. The black boots are the most expensive.
