4 Preterite: For a completed action that occurred ONE time in the past: Yo fui a la escuela ayer.Yo visité a mi abuela el cinco de diciembre.

5 Preterite cont’ Comieron en un restaurante el viernes pasado. Julia limpió el cuarto de baño hoy por la mañana.

6 Preterite cont’ Juan pasó la aspiradora a las once. Ellos lavaron el carro el sábado.

7 Imperfect: To describe something or someone. Mi primo era atlético. (bajo, rubio, moreno, gordo, flaco…) ¡Era super inteligente!

8 Imperfect: To describe something or someone. El edificio era alto. Su novia era bonita y rica.

9 Imperfect (con’t.) To talk about how someone was feeling or their emotional state of being Pablo estaba enfermo.Jason estaba muy triste.

10 Imperfect (con’t.) To describe the weather: Hacía frío Hacía calor y buen tiempo. Llovía. Hacía mal tiempo.

11 OJO: TENER = “to have” but it is used to tell a person’s age! Tengo 16 años = I am 16 years old Imperfect (con.’t.)-To tell someone’s age in the past “El tenía 15 años” = (He had 15 years) = “He was 15 years old”

12 Imperfect - age Cuando mi abuela tenía cuatro años era linda, baja y rica. (When my grandma was 4 yrs. Old she was cute, short and wealthy.) Cuando tenía cuatro años, vivía en Italia. (When she was four she lived in Italy)

13 Key Words: Preterite:  Ayer = yesterday  Anoche = last night  El mes pasado = last month  La semana pasada = last week  Hoy = today  Esta mañana (noche,tarde) = this morning/night/evening Specific points in time: el lunes, el martes, el 22 de diciembre Imperfect:  Todos los días / meses / años = everyday, month, year  todas las semanas = every week  Cada lunes = each Monday  Cada semana….. = each….  A menudo = often  Frequentemente = frequently
