3 The verb Gustar Use the verb gustar to say what someone does or does not like. If the thing someone likes is singular, ask/answer this way: ¿Te gusta la comida italiana? Sí, me gusta mucho la comida italiana. No, no me gusta la comida italiana. p.57

4 ¿Te gusta la música de Puerto Rico? Sí, me gusta mucho la música de Puerto Rico.

5 ¿Te gusta el ajedrez? No, no me gusta el ajedrez.

6 ¿Te gusta la comida mexicana? Sí, me gusta mucho la comida mexicana.

7 The verb Gustar If the thing someone likes is plural, ask/answer this way: ¿Te gustan los carros? Sí, me gustan mucho los carros. No, no me gustan los carros.

8 ¿Te gustan los libros de aventuras? Sí, me gustan mucho los libros de aventuras.

9 ¿Te gustan las hamburguesas? No, no me gustan las hamburguesas.

10 ¿Te gustan los videojuegos? Sí, me gustan mucho los videojuegos.

11 Gustar: How it works Gustar is a special type of verb. – There are only two forms – It has its own special pronouns (not the same ones we use with ser!) Two forms of gustar: gusta – singular thing gustan – plural things This depends on the thing that is liked, NOT who likes it! Me gusta el ajedrez. Me gustan los carros. p.57

16 What do you like more? To ask someone to choose which of 2 things they like more, say: ¿Te gusta más la comida china o la comida italiana? Me gusta más la comida china. Me da igual. It’s all the same to me. ¿Te gustan más las verduras o las frutas? Me gustan más las frutas. p.57

18 Describing Things To ask why someone likes something, use ¿por qué? To answer why you like something, use porque – ¿Por qué? = why? – Porque = because ¿Por qué te gustan los videojuegos? ¡Me gustan los videojuegos porque son fenomenales! p.59

19 ¿Por qué te gusta…? Use these words to describe why you like or don’t like certain things: pésimo/a (awful) divertido/a (fun) fenomenal (awesome) interesante (interesting) formidable (great) bueno/a (good) delicioso/a (delicious) malo/a (bad) horrible (horrible) Use one of these words before your adjective to clarify further: muy (very) algo (somewhat) bastante (pretty/quite) un poco (a little) *These words go directly in front of the adjective! Remember to agree in gender and number with what you are describing! Me gustan las frutas porque son muy deliciosas. Me gustan los libros porque son bastante interesantes. Me gusta el ajedrez porque es algo divertido. p.59
