Preterite vs. Imperfect Imperfect Preterite Conocer knew (a person, place) Yo conocía a Maya cuando eramos niñas. met Tú conociste a Maya ayer. Saber knew (information) Yo sabía que él estaba mintiendo. found out Yo estaba sorprendida cuando supé lo que pasó.
