1 Hoy vamos a .. aprender palabras para describir sitios turísticos
crear frases con ‘hay’ (there is/there are) y ‘no hay’ de vacaciones on holiday

2 A B C D 1 2 3 la piscina el castillo el cine la estación de trenes
This is a game of pairs – the 6 x places for which there are pictures and words under different squares are – la piscina, la estacion de trenes, la playa, el castillo, el cine and el puerto. Pupils did learn places in the town in year 7 but this was a long time ago. You might want to try to elicit the vocabulary first through gesture and/or have some words written up in Spanish on the board that you then explain. As the answers come to light during the game, it would be good to practise ‘hay/no hay’ and relate back to Cambridge – this will reinforce the structure but also ensure that they understand what each item is. This will lead them very logically into describing what there is/is not in Cambridge on the next slide. la estación de trenes 3 el puerto la playa

3 ¿Qué hay de interés en Cambridge?
p una universidad (famosa) r una playa p unas iglesias y capillas p unas discotecas r una plaza de toros p unas piscinas un puerto This slide builds up gradually. First the picture arrives, then the accompanying vocabulary, then the x or tick showing whether or not that place exists in Cambridge. Teacher can do the first few as modelling and then pupils can take over giving whole sentences. At the end a longer sentence is shown and pupils should be given 4 mins in pairs to generate some sample phrases using the information as a prompt. Teacher can circulate and then hear some of the examples whole class. Reinforce the pronunciation of hay at this point! For lots of classes this may well be the point to stop, take stock, use vocabulary books and core language sheets (with mini whiteboards) to draft some whole sentences. A really useful plenary for whole class is to do ‘change one detail’ in the sentence before. If you sent up ‘En Cambridge hay un cine’ as the starting phrase, then students could say ‘En Cambridge hay 3 cines’ OR ‘En Harlow hay un cine’ OR En Cambridge hay una piscina. This means you get all listening and participating and thinking about the meaning they are making. r p unos jardines un centro comercial p Hay una universidad pero no hay una playa de vacaciones on holiday
