practicar la pronunciación y estrategias para memorizar palabras nuevas de vacaciones on holiday

2 ¿Qué tiempo hace? hace buen tiempo hace mal tiempo hace frío
hace calor hace sol hay viento hay niebla llueve/ hay lluvia nieva/está nevando The idea is to pre-teach this vocabulary. You go through the list explaining the words in Spanish so that the students get to hear them lots and understand what they mean. I usually go back to the beginning and check they remember them throughout my introduction. Once we have gone through them all and practised I then get them to write them down in their ex books. By not getting them to write straight away it is much better for their memorising. When they are writing down encourage them to check the meanings with a partner if they have forgotten. Once they all have them in their books do one last check to make sure they all understand them correctly. This part of the lesson should take no more than about 10 mins. You may wish to extend it by using Post It notes to help them memorise. You may also wish to imtroduce the words with an action to help engage left and right hand side of brain. de vacaciones on holiday

A striaght forward grid. I suggest the following format. For example: Hace sol – c o e? (6 examples) Hace sol – que letra es? (6 examples) I – hace sol o hace frio (9 examples) Go through all and ask for volunteers to tell you the Spanish (all nine) y w v de vacaciones on holiday 3

Pupils have to guess which weather is under the blue box. If they get it right the class gets a point. If they get it wrong the teacher wins a point! They are not in the same order as in the previous silde to make the teacher have a chance!!! de vacaciones on holiday 4

The teacher points to an image on the grid and says a weather phrase. To win a point the class must repeat the phrase, if the teacher has said it correctly; they must remain silent if it is said incorrectly. The teacher wins the points when the class is outwitted. de vacaciones on holiday

Maths and Spanish. Give them 10 maths questions. For example, you say: It’s foggyy plus it’s cold. The students have to do the maths: They wirte 7 in their ex books. de vacaciones on holiday

At this point in the lesson, depending on time, you might want to get the whiteboards out. You could write weather sentences on the board with a deliberate mistake and they have to correct. Or they could give their partner a vocab test etc etc de vacaciones on holiday

Normalmente llueve Escocia A veces hace calor España Siempre nieva en Alemania A menudo hace sol Inglaterra Nunca hace mal tiempo Italia hay niebla hace frío Mastermind – The teacher writes a sentence onto a mini whiteboard incorporating a word/phrase from each column. The class have to guess the sentence. After each guess the teacher tells them how many parts they have got right but not which parts. By a process of elimination the class can work out the sentence. de vacaciones on holiday
