2  You use the preterite to talk about actions that were completed in the past. -I shopped yesterday. -You danced at the party. -We went to the store. WHAT IS THE PRETERITE? THESE THINGS ARE ALREADY DONE AND COMPLETED. I.E. THEY HAPPENED IN THE PAST.

3  Drop the AR from the infinitive and add one the following endings. CONJUGATING AR VERBS IN THE PRETERITE Yo -- éNosotros -- amos Tú – asteVosotros -- asteis Él/ Ella/ -- ó Usted Ellos/ Ellas/ -- aron Ustedes

5 CONJUGATION FOR ER/IR IN PRETERITE. Drop the ER or the IR from the infinitive and add one of the endings to your stem. Yo -- íNosotros -- imos Tú -- isteVosotros -- isteis Él/ Ella/ -- ió Usted Ellos/ Ellas/ -- ieron Ustedes

8  Verbs that have a stem-change in the present tense do not have a stem change in the preterite. ~ Example ~ Present tense- Me acuesto a las nueve. Preterite- Me acosté a las nueve. **NOTE**
