4 The preterit tells you about a completed action or an action that started and ended at a definite time. Viajé a Costa Rica el verano pasado. Viajé a Costa Rica el verano pasado. 5 The imperfect can be used to say… was/were +ing or used to… Todo el mundo dormía. Todo el mundo dormía. Everybody was sleeping. Everybody was sleeping. La chica cantaba. La chica cantaba.
