3 Subjunctive vs. Indicative All of the verb tenses we’ve been using are in the Indicative Mode. The Indicative Mode is used to express what we know or believe to be true or factual. The Subjunctive Mode is used to talk about things that aren’t facts, such as hopes, persuasion, doubt, emotion, etc.
