3 Affirmative / Negative Expressions  Some affirmative and negative words t you already know. Remember, they are ANTONYMS.

4 Affirmative  algo  alguien  alguno, alguna (pronoun)  algún, alguna (adj.)  siempre  también  o, o

5 Order in a sentence  Affirmative words usually come before the main verb of the sentence. In a question, they may come after the verb.

6 Before the main verb  Hoy también hace nieve.  ¿Cumplió años alguien?  ¿Se ve algo?  ¿Siempre vas a la panadería?

7 Before the main verb  Hoy también hace nieve.  ¿Cumplió años alguien?  ¿Se ve algo?  ¿Siempre vas a la panadería?

8 Negative Expressions DOUBLE NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE  Negative words may come before and/or after the verb. But if they come after, we must use no before the verb.

9 Negative  nada  nadie  ninguno, ninguna (pronoun)  ningún, ninguna (adj.)  nunca  tampoco  ni, ni

10 Acento/tilde  Algún, ningún, and también are always written with an accent.

11 Negative before Verb and after the verb DOUBLE NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE Nadie fue a la reunión. No fue nadie a la reunión.

12 Negative before and after the verb DOUBLE NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE  Nunca llora.  No llora nunca.

13 Negative before and after the verb DOUBLE NEGATIVE = NEGATIVE  Nadie se quitó el abrigo.  No se quitó el abrigo nadie.

14 Traduzcan Uds. al español:

15 1.Emelio never brings his books to class. a. Emelio no trae nunca sus libros a clase. b. Emelio nunca trae sus libros a clase. 2.Neither Pepita nor Consuelo watched the Oscar Awards. Ni Pepita ni Consuelo miraron los Oscar Awards.

16 3. The smart boys never have anything [nothing] on their desks. Los chicos inteligentes nunca tienen nada en sus pupitres.

17 4. To get good grades (one must) memorize the vocabulary and never sleep in class. a. Para sacar buenas notas hay que aprender de memoria y no dormir nunca en clase. b. Para sacar …… y nunca dormir en clase.

18 5. They don’t eat bread ever. a. No comen nunca el pan. b. Nunca comen el pan
