2 Direct object pronouns are simply words that replace a direct object. In English, there are two – “it” and “them”. Look at these examples – the direct object pronouns are underlined: I have the book.I have it. I see the cookies.I see them.

3 In Spanish there are four different direct object pronouns, depending on whether the noun you are dealing with is masculine, feminine, singular, or plural. Look at the following chart: loIf the noun is masculine and singular laIf the noun is feminine and singular losIf the noun is masculine and plural lasIf the noun is feminine and plural

4 Look at the following sentences. The direct object and the direct object pronouns are underlined: Tengo el libro.Lo tengo. Tengo la revista.La tengo. Tengo los bolígrafos.Los tengo. Tengo las camisas.Las tengo. Notice how the direct object pronoun in the red sentences comes BEFORE the verb; this is how it must be done in Spanish.
