1 --AR verb conjugations in the Present tense

2   Remember!  While watching the tutorial, take notes in your Spanish notebook.  You can pause, stop and rewind the tutorial at any time.  Don’t forget to fill out the Google form that follows the tutorial. It’s your homework! Antes de empezar

3   Infinitive: The most basic form of any verb. It is usually preceded by the word “to”. This word has not been conjugated. Ex: “to work”  To conjugate: To change the infinitive of a verb so that it agrees with the subject pronoun or the subject of a sentence.  Conjugation: The form of the verb changed so that it agrees with a subject.  Conjugation chart: The subject pronoun chart with the verb conjugations. Important Terminology

4   You will need to review and remember the subject pronoun chart from the last tutorial.  This is the foundation of the Conjugation chart!  You will need to use the subject pronouns to correctly conjugate the verbs. ¡Para repasar!

5  SINGULAR (talking about 1 person) PLURAL (talking about more than one person) First Person Singular – Yo First Person Plural – Nosotros Nosotras Second Person Singular – Tú (informal) Usted (Ud.) (formal) Second Person Plural – Vosotros/Vosotras (only used in Spain) Ustedes (Uds.) (used everywhere else) Third Person Singular – él/ella Third Person Plural – ellos/ellas Subject Pronoun Chart in Spanish

6   There are a couple of steps to follow when conjugating verbs in the Present tense in Spanish.  1) Take the infinitive form of the verb -- HABLAR  2) Take the AR off the end of the verb -- HABL—  3) Add the ending of the AR verbs (See the next slide) Conjugating verbs

7  SINGULAR (talking about 1 person) PLURAL (talking about more than one person) Yo -- o Nosotros/Nosotras -- amos Tú – as (The Ud. form is still considered speaking in 2 nd person, but takes a 3 rd person singular conjugation) Vosotros/Vosotras -- áis (The Uds. form is still considered speaking in 2 nd person, but takes a 3 rd person plural conjugation) él Ella -- a Ud. Ellos Ellas -- an Uds. Present tense –AR endings

8  SINGULAR (talking about 1 person) PLURAL (talking about more than one person) Yo -- hablo Nosotros/as -- hablamos Tú – hablas Vosotros/as -- habláis él Ella -- habla Ud. Ellos Ellas -- hablan Uds. Conjugation of HABLAR

9   Yo hablo español.  Tú hablas inglés.  Él habla italiano.  Usted habla lentamente.  Nosotros hablamos ruso.  Vosotros habláis español.  Ellos hablan griego.  Uds. hablan francés. Ejemplos

10   Yo monto en bicicleta.  Tú patinas sobre hielo.  Él practica deportes.  Ella canta bien.  Nosotros bailamos mal.  Vosotros esquiáis en las montañas.  Ellas cantan en el coro.  Uds. montan en monopatín. Otros Ejemplos
