En Europa, sólo se habla español en España. Sin embargo, hay partes de Francia muy cerca de la frontera con España donde se habla francés y español, por ejemplo en Biarritz. Aunque en Estados Unidos el inglés es el idioma oficial, hay tantos hispanos que en algunos estados el español es el otro idioma oficial. Por ejemplo, hay una comunidad enorme de hispanos* en Los Ángeles, Florida y otras ciudades. Se calcula que con el gran número de hispanos que crece cada año, en el futuro habrá más gente hispanohablante que no hispanohablante en Estados Unidos. Pupils read the text about where Spanish is spoken in the world. An exercise follows on slide 6. *The term hispano is used here because it is the term used by the USA Censors Office to describe people of Latin American or Spanish origin. Nevertheless, the group of people to whom this term refers prefer the term latino to hispano.

No sólo se habla español en España sino también en muchos otros países del mundo. Estos países se llaman países hispanos y se encuentran en Latinoamérica*. Por ejemplo: Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Perú, Costa Rica, Colombia, México y muchos más. Otros países más pequeños y menos conocidos son Paraguay, Uruguay y Panamá. Pupils read the text about where Spanish is spoken in the world. An exercise follows on slide 6. *The term Latinoamérica (Latin America) refers to the countries that were colonized by Latin nations (Spain, Portugal and France) and where Spanish, Portuguese or French are the main national language. So, the countries that speak Spanish are Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Bolivia, Perú, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, Panamá, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana, Cuba, México and some states of USA.
