Attending parent conferences/parent university/ parent association Completing parent coupon booklet (available in the main office) Donating bottled water, copy paper, pens, pencils, bandages, feminine products to the school (Receipt is Required) 2. How will I know about volunteer opportunities? Teleparent ****make sure we have a working phone number**** Parent Newsletters 3. How will I know how many hours I have? You can call the main office at (323) 972-9010 and ask to speak to Ms. Contreras. 4. Who can complete the service hours? Parents, legal guardians, and family members who are at least 21 years of age. 5. What if I am unable to complete my hours? It is our sincere desire to have every family meet the required hours. Volunteering benefits your child as well as your family and the school. There are vast opportunities available for each family to complete the required hours. It is each family’s responsibility to take advantage of the opportunities provided. If you have any further questions feel free to call Ms. Contreras at (323) 972-9010. 6. 14 What is the ACT?/¿Que es el ACT? The ACT is a widely used college entrance exam. It has four (possibly five) areas: English Reading Mathematics Science Writing (optional – may be required) El ACT es un examen que se requiere para entrar a la universidad Tiene Cuatro (o Cinco) diferentes áreas: Ingles Lectura Matemáticas Ciencia Escritura-Opcional

ACT EXPLORE – 9th grade Help students explore a broad range of options for their future Prepares students for high school coursework Prepares students for after graduation ACT PLAN – 10th grade Measures students current academic development Helps students explore career/training options Make plans for the remaining years of high school Make plans for after graduation ACT – 11 th and 12th grade It’s the only college admission test based on the number of correct answers—you are not penalized for guessing. The test questions on the ACT are directly related to what students learn in their high school courses in English, mathematics, reading, and science.

17 How can I prepare my student for the ACT? ¿Como yo puedo preparar a mi hijo/a para el ACT? Encourage your child to study for all classes. This will build knowledge for the test. Attend tutoring, even if they are doing well. Eat well and get a good night’s rest the night before the test. TEST DAY: Wednesday, October 17, 2012 Anime a su hijo/a que estudie lo que esta aprendiendo en la escuela. Anime a su hijo/a que atienda tutoría aunque tenga buenas calificaciones.
