black bean soup. Gallo pinto The most common dish for breakfast is Gallo Pinto which consists of rice mixed with black beans, served with natilla (sour cream), eggs (scrambled) and fried plantain. Costa Ricans usually drink a cup of coffee or fresh fruit juice with it. Arroz con leche There are a lot of traditional Costa Rican desserts like arroz con leche (rice with milk). The rice is cooked in milk with sugar, cinnamon and other ingredients. Casados For lunch, Casados (beans, rice) are served with some sort of meat or fish and a salad, fried plantains, white cheese and corn tortilla. The difference between Gallo Pinto and Casado is that in Casados, rice and the bean are served side by side and not mixed.

Nos llamamos Ticos!!! Aficionados de fútbol celebrando Tico es otra palabra para decir costarricense. Se refiere a la tendencia de los costarricenses de poner un –tico al final de sus palabras (por ejemplo, gato: gatico). Por eso, el equipo nacional de fútbol de Costa Rica se llama Los Ticos. ¿Tienen un nombre especial las personas de tu región de Estados Unidos?

7 Las aguas termales En Costa Rica hay muchos lugares bonitos donde las personas pueden pasar un rato en la naturaleza. En el resorte de Tabacón en Arenal, Alajuela , uno puede caminar por jardines tropicales, observar el volcán activo de Arenal y jugar en las aguas termales (hot springs). ¿Adónde van los turistas en la región donde vives? The hot springs of Tabacón are due to the volcano, Arenal which is three quarters of a mile away. A major volcano in Costa Rica, Arenal lay dormant for 400 years- the erupted in Today, visitors can float in the warm waters near its base while watching giant fiery boulders tumble down its sides.

La artesanía más conocida de Costa Rica es la carreta de madera. Los artesanos pintan las carretas con diseños tradicionales de muchos colores. Antes las carretas se usaban para transportar el café, pero hoy la mayoría son decorativas. ¿Qué cosas especiales hacen donde vives? Sarchi is considered the home of the painted oxcarts. Use of the carts dates back to the late 1800’s when they were used to transport coffee beans before the railroads were built. Originally the carts were plain wood.
