2 The aim of the symposium is to describe, in general, the context of education and training of psychologists in Mexico from a national perspective.

4 Farther evidence we have on the teaching of psychology in Mexico dates back to 1847. Teodosio Lares wrote the book entitled "Elements of Psychology". According Lares (1850), this book had the function of serving as a basis for the teaching of psychology, and that in his opinion there was at that time a document intended to have the same instruction of the new science. The work includes among other topics: Experimental psychology; Rational psychology; Theory of intelligence; Theory of sensitivity; Activity Theory; The future destiny of the human soul. 1847 Lares T. 5 Formalizing the teaching of psychology... Teodosio Lares, Minister of Justice, Ecclesiastical Affairs and Public Instruction of the government of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna; designed and promoted by Presidential Decree 4364 called “Plan General de Estudios” (General Curriculum). 1854 The General Curriculum, issued on December 19, 1854, according to its Article 5 mandates the teaching of psychology in secondary education Moreover, the General Rules of Studies issued June 13, 1855, Article 12 says: "... 7 Chavez proposed to the education and especially to the psychology as a key to establish a national unity in those years of social fragility (Molina, 1997) tool. This was one of the reasons why Chavez established and formally imparted the first chair of psychology at the National Preparatory School in 1896, supported by the book "Physiological Psychology" by Charles Richet (Meneses, 1998). Later, in 1902, Chavez translated the book "Elements of Psychology" written by Edward Bradford Titchener and this book would be the basis of the department for over 25 years in the National High School (Navailles, 2010). 8 In 1916 the first psychology laboratory was established and was headed by the physician Enrique Octavio Aragon Echeagaray, at the National Preparatory School. In 1938 the first Master's program in Psychology offered by The Broad of Psychology, in the Faculty of Arts at the National University was created.
