Adjetivos demonstrativos
Demonstrative adjectives are use to "show" or "demonstrate" the locational relationship between the speaker and the person/thing being spoken to/about. “This” “that” and “that far away in time and/or space” are the English equivalents of the demonstrative adjectives in Spanish. In Spanish, the only difference is that the demonstrative adjectives have to agree in number and gender
17
Adjetivos demonstrativos
The decision whether to use "this," "that," or "that way over there" to describe where some item or entity is located relative to oneself is based on anwering "Yes" or "No" to these questions: 1. Is the item being spoken about closer to the speaker than to the person to whom the speaker is speaking or within "arm's length" of the speaker? Use this. 2. Is the item closer to the person being spoken to or within the immediate area surrounding the speaker? Use that. 3. Is the item being spoken about far away from the person speaking and/or far away from the person to whom the speaker is speaking? Use that far away.
