3 The stem or root: Whatever is left after removing the ending from the infinitive. The stem can consist of a variable number of letters, depending on the length of the verb in question. The fundamental parts of the Spanish verb ER ending COM stem

4 When we conjugate any verb we always begin with its stem. To conjugate: To put a verb in its correct person and number so that we know who is doing the action. Verb Conjugation

5 Terminations of the –ER verbs Yo -ONosotros -EMOS Tú -ESVosotros -ÉIS Él, ella Ud. -EEllos, ellas, Uds. - EN

6 Take the verb COMER. Remove the ending and add the terminations. This is what we call “to conjugate a verb” Yo como – I eatNosotros/ as comemos We eat Tú comes – you eatVosotros coméis You all eat Él, ella come he, she eats Usted come - you eat (formal) Ellos, ellas comen – they eat Ustedes comen – you all eat (formal)
