estar means ‘to be’ It is used when we talk about: Health: ¿Cómo estás? Estoy bien. Emotions: ¿Cómo estás? Estoy feliz. Location: ¿Dónde estás? Estoy en la clase de español. Progressive Tense: *Estoy escuchando.

Talking about LOCATION
Use the verb estar when talking about where people, places and things are located. The book is on the desk. El libro está en la mesa. My father is in the garage. Mi padre está en el garaje. The students are in the library. Los estudiantes están en la biblioteca.
