Used to talk about a completed action in the past Take off the infinitive ending (-ar, -er, -ir) for regular verbs and add the preterite endings MUST USE ACCENT MARKS!

3 -AR Yo é Tú aste El/ella/ud. ó Nosotros amos Vosotros asteis
Ellos/ellas/uds. aron

4 -ER/-IR Yo í Tú iste El/ella/ud. ió Nosotros imos Vosotros isteis
Ellos/ellas/uds. ieron

5 HABLAR - ejemplo Yo hablé Tú hablaste El/ella/ud. habló
Nosotros hablamos Vosotros hablasteis Ellos/ellas/uds. hablaron

6 CORRER - ejemplo Yo corrí Tú corriste El/ella/ud. corrió
Nosotros corrimos Vosotros corristeis Ellos/ellas/uds. corrieron

7 Special note… The “nosotros” form of –AR and –IR verbs look the same in the present and preterite tenses. It is important to read the context of the paragraph to know if it is present or past. Ejemplo: Hablamos mucho. We talk a lot. We talked a lot.
