En 1978, tanto la Comisión de la Capital Nacional y la Ciudad de Ottawa reconoció oficialmente a la Catedral de Notre Dame Basilica de Ottawa como monumento histórico. La catedral es sin duda la iglesia más antigua de Ottawa. Se encuentra en el sitio que ocupaba la primera capilla católica abierta tanto a los anglófonos y francófonos de Bytown. In 1847, the poor mission church was prematurely transformed into a cathedral, In 1978, both the National Capital Commission and the City of Ottawa officially recognized the Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica of Ottawa as an historic monument. The cathedral is indeed the oldest surviving church in Ottawa. It stands on the site that was occupied by the first Catholic chapel open to both anglophones and francophones of Bytown. 14-May-19
