The verb tener is irregular. It is used to express possession – I have etc In Spanish tener has many idiomatic usages. For example, we use tener to express age EX. Yo tengo quince años. I am (have) fifteen years (old). Él tiene hambre. He is hungry. Nosotros tenemos sed. We are thirsty. It is also used to express an obligation: EX: Yo tengo que decorar la casa por la fiesta. I have to decorate the house for the party. Mi hermano tiene que hacer la tarea. My brother has to do homework.
