Preterite of regular verbs To talk about actions that were completed in the past, use the preterite tense. To form the preterite tense of a regular verb, add the preterite endings to the stem of the verb.

4 The conjugation of regular -ar verbs
comprar = to buy, to purchase Just as with present tense verbs, we always start with the stem of the verb. compr é compr amos compr aste compr asteis compr ó compr aron Except for single-syllable verb forms,* the first- and third-persons singular of regular preterite verbs always bear a written accent on the final syllable. *For example, the first- and third-persons singular of ver: vi, vio

vivir = to live We start with the stem. viv í viv imos viv iste viv isteis viv viv ieron Notice that -ir verbs conjugate exactly like -er verbs. Except for single-syllable verb forms, the first- and third-persons singular of regular preterite verbs always bear a written accent on the final syllable.

Escribir, hablar, compartir: ¿Qué ropa llevaron? Write a description about what each of these people wore in the past. Conjugate your verb using the preterite and make sure to include clothing vocabulary and adjectives to describe (fit, material, color, brand if possible) Palabras importantes: marca, hecho/hecha de, flojo/a, apretado/a, oscuro/a, claro/a, feo/a, bonito/a (see p. 98 and 124 for more adjectives to describe).
