1 TRENCHING MACHINES Utility trenches for water, gas, and oil pipelines; shoulder drains on highways; drainage ditches and sewers. Relatively fast digging, positive controls of depths and widths of trenches, reducing expensive finishing. Not suitable for rock. Usually crawler mounted

2 WHEEL-TYPE TRENCHING MACHINES Available with max. cutting depths > 2.5 m, trench widths from 30 cm to 150 cm, varying speeds. Consists of a power-driven wheel, on which are mounted a no. of removable buckets, equipped with cutter teeth. Side cutters can be attached to increase the width of a trench. Earth picked up by the buckets and deposited onto an endless belt conveyor. Earth discharged to either side of the trench.

4 LADDER-TYPE TRENCHING MACHINES Extensions can be added to ladders or booms,to which more chain links and buckets can be added. Trench depths >10 m and widths >4 m possible. Excavating part of the machine consists of two endless chains, which travel along the boom, to which are attached cutter buckets with teeth. Side cutter to increase the width of a trench. Earth can be discharged to either side using a conveyor belt.
