The International Council of Ophthalmology represents and serves professional associations of ophthalmologists throughout the world.

Misión del ICO Realzar la Educación Oftálmica Mejorar el Acceso a la Atención Ocular de Más Alta Calidad Preservar y Restaurar la Visión The ICO works with ophthalmologic societies and others to enhance ophthalmic education and improve access to the highest quality eye care in order to preserve and restore vision for the people of the world.

Reenfocar la Educación Oftálmica For achieving this the ICO’s has several programs and commitments that can be categorized in 3 groups: refocusing (enhancing) ophthalmic education; enhancing eye care; and advancing leadership.

8 Reenfocar la Educación Oftálmica
+4,000 oftalmólogos países For Enhancing Ophthalmic Education the ICO has a number of programs: it organizes the World Ophthalmology Congress, the ICO International Examinations (in 2011 over two thousand ophthalmologists in 67 countries took the exams), the Curricula for Training of residents, medical students, allied eye care personnel, the “Fellowships” or Intensive Courses, Courses for Training Residency Program Directors, Conferences for Ophthalmic Educators, an online Center for Ophthalmic Educators, an online course about teaching, and a webinars network. Many of these programs are co-sponsored with other supranational and national ophthalmologic societies. CURRICULO

10 Mejorar la Atención Ocular
For Enhancing Eye Care the ICO works in a variety of programs along with the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness and the World Health Organization, Vision 2020: The Right to Sight, Light for the World, the Al Noor Magrabi Foundation.

Mesa Redonda en Oftalmología para el Desarrollo del Liderazgo World Ophthalmology Roundtable on Leadership Development (WORLD) Potenciar el Liderazgo For Advancing Leadership  the ICO stimulates & supports relationships among ophthalmologic societies and ophthalmologists, and offers resources, news and connections to ophthalmologists and ophthalmologic societies around the world, especially those of developing countries.
