Los estudiantes hablan mucho sin permiso. Ella lee el libro. Ella me escribe una carta de amor. Ella siempre hace su tarea. Senor Bodle prefiere que no hablen los estudiantes sin permiso. Quiero que ella lea el libro. Espero que ella me escriba una carta de amor. El profesor insiste que ella siempre haga su tarea.

Indicativo (indicative) Expresses… Facts / factual statements Objective / Real Information… This is how it is… “The sky is blue.” “I am a good student.” You are tall Subjuntivo (Subjunctive) Expresses… Things that may or may not be true. There is some element of doubt or uncertainty Carlos’ parents may want him to get good grades, but whether he does or not is another story.

5 The subjunctive require a change in subject.

Temo que lleguen tarde. Prefiero que estén aquí temprano.

Julia quiere que Bill vaya al baile (prom) con ella. Ella espera que él le diga “sí!” Subjuntivo o no? I am American. She is intelligent. We speak English. I hope that it rains. It is possible that she comes to the party. Perhaps Mr. Bodle is tired. Julia wants Bill to go to the Prom with her. She hopes that he tells her “yes.”

Frequentemente la palabra “que” viene antes de un verbo en el subjuntivo. “Que” means “that” AR verbs end in “e” and “ER” and “IR” verbs end in “a” Insisto que… Quiero que… Espero que… Prefiero que… Ojalá que Etc... Estas frases son clausulas nominales…

Qué querías ser cuando eras nino? ¿Qué quieres ser ahora? ¿Qué (quiere) prefiere (tu mamá/papá) que tú seas? ¿Qué quieren tus padres que tengas en el futuro? (un trabajo importante? Felicidad?
