Irregular formal commands Giving orders to people you respect

You already know that to give a command to someone you respect (Usted/Ustedes), you must: 1. conjugate the verb in the yo form, 2. chop off the « o » 3. and add « e » for –ar verbs and add « a » for –er and –ir verbs ↓ ↓ ↓ montar→ monto → mont- → ¡monte! comer→ como → com- → ¡coma! subir→ subo → sub- → ¡suba!

3 Mandatos irregulares However, not all verbs are regular. Some verbs do not follow these steps. Here are some examples of irregular commands: dar ser ir (Ud.) dé sea vaya (Uds.) den sean vayan

4 Mandatos irregulares negativos
Just like regular formal commands, to make irregular formal commands negative, just place a « no » infront. ¡dé! ¡no dé!

5 Mandatos con los objectos
Remember, you can add Direct object pronouns to commands: dar/el regalo El regalo → lo: ¡dé el regalo! → ¡délo! give it! If the command is negative, place the direct object pronoun before the verb: ¡no lo dé don’t give it!

You can also add Indirect object pronouns to commands. dar/ al Señor Garcia al Señor Garcia → le dé el periodico al Señor Garcia→déle el periodico Give him the newspaper If the command is negative, place the indirect object pronoun before the verb: No le dé el periodico Don’t give him the newspaper
