2 The progressives Are a compound tense.
Are formed by using the auxiliary verb ESTAR + the main verb in the GERUND The GERUND has one form depending on the ending The ESTAR takes on all six forms, in any tense.

3 Forming the gerund to make the progressive…
-AR verbs (HABLAR) HABLAR – (AR) + ando= hablando Hablando is the gerund estar (1-6) + gerund = progressive

4 estar (1-6) + gerund = progressive
Yo estoy hablando. I am speaking. Tú estás hablando. You are speaking. Él o Ella está hablando. He or she is speaking. Ud. está hablando. You are speaking. Nosotros estamos hablando. We are speaking. Vosotros estáis hablando. Y’all are speaking. Ellos o Ellas están hablando. They are speaking. Uds. están hablando. You all are speaking.

5 Other gerunds – ER verbs
ER verbs (COMER) COMER – (ER) + iendo = comiendo Estoy comiendo Other verbs: BEBER → bebiendo VOLVER → volviendo LEER → leyendo

IR verbs (VIVIR) VIVIR – (IR) + iendo = viviendo Estoy viviendo Other verbs: ASISTIR → asistiendo SERVIR → sirviendo VESTIR → vistiendo DORMIR → durmiendo IR → yendo OIR → oyendo

7 Reflexive Verbs & Present Progressives
LAVARSE Gerund: lavándose Yo: Estoy lavándome. OR Me estoy lavando. VESTIRSE Gerund: vistiéndose Tú: Estás vistiéndote. OR Te estás vistiendo.

Event actually in progress in the present Ella está durmiendo. She is sleeping. (now)
