Preferir, poder, and probar
Preferir, poder, and probar are all stem- changing verbs. In the verb preferir, the second e becomes ie when conjugated. In the verb poder, the o becomes ue when conjugated. In the verb probar, the o becomes ue when conjugated. There is not a stem change in the nosotros form.

Preferir Preferir means to prefer. The conjugations of preferir are:
Yo – prefiero Tú - prefieres Él/ella/usted – prefiere Nosotros – preferemos Ellos/ellas/ustedes - prefieren

Preferir Example 1: Yo prefiero la salsa roja. (I prefer the red sauce.) Example 2: Mi hermana prefiere el sándwich de atún. (My sister prefers the tuna sándwich.)

Poder Poder means to be able to.
When we conjugate it, it is like saying the word “can” in English. The conjugations of poder are: Yo – puedo Tú – puedes Él/ella/usted – puede Nosotros – podemos Ellos/ellas/ustedes - pueden

Poder Example 1: ?Puedo ir al baño? (Can I go to the bathroom?)

Probar Probar means to try. The conjugations of probar are:
Yo – pruebo Tú – pruebas Él/ella/usted – prueba Nosotros – probamos Ellos/ellas/ustedes - prueban

Probar Example 1: ?Pruebo la ensalada de pollo? (Can I try the chicken salad?) Example 2: Mi amigo no va a probar el flan. (My friend is not going to try the flan.)
