1 What is an infinitive? In English, an infinitive is any verb you use with the word “to.” In Spanish it is the base form of a verb – i.e. what it looks like before we do anything to it. There are 3 types: -ar, -er, -ir hablar (to talk) leer (to read) escribir (to write)

contestar - to answer practicar (deportes) – to practice (sports) conversar - to converse preguntar (una pregunta) – to ask (a question) dibujar - to draw enseñar - to teach preparar – to prepare escuchar - to listen (to) terminar – to end estudiar – to study tocar (un instrumento) – to play (an instrument) explicar – to explain hablar – to talk tomar (la clase) – take (the class) llegar – to arrive necesitar – to need trabajar – to work pintar – to paint

Goal: To say that we talk or that we are talking hablar habl How do we say we? Substitute the ending. Yo Nosotros/as Tú Vosotros/as Él Ella Usted Ellos Ellas Ustedes -o -amos -as -áis -a -an Nosotros hablamos.

4 Él estudia. Conjugation Verbo: estudiar
Goal: To say that he studies or is studying estudiar estudi How do we say he? Substitute the ending. Yo Nosotros/as Tú Vosotros/as Él Ella Usted Ellos Ellas Ustedes -o -amos -as -áis -a -an Él estudia.

5 Ellos practican. Conjugation Verbo: practicar

6 Sra. Mack enseña. Conjugation Verbo: enseñar
