In English, the equivalent is “to like”

2 Por ejemplo: In English we say: “I like Spanish.”
En español decimos: “Spanish is pleasing to me.”

3 I like basketball. En español: In English: “basketball” is the subject
“to please” is the verb “me” is the indirect object (person who is doing the liking) In English: “I” is the subject “like” is the verb “basketball” is the direct object (thing that is pleasing to person)

4 En Español…: The word order is actually “backwards” for GUSTAR:
The indirect object comes first: Me Then the verb: gusta Finally the subject of the verb: el baloncesto. Make it negative by adding “NO” at the beginning.

5 “Gusta” = singular nouns ex: Me gusta la pizza
To use GUSTAR there are only two possible forms: “Gusta” = singular nouns ex: Me gusta la pizza “Gustan” = plural nouns Ex: Me gustan las clases. Ex: Me gustan la pizza y la ensalada.
