2 ¿Qué significa “gustar”?
To say what people like in Spanish, we use the verb gustar. This verb literally means to be pleasing. So instead of saying, “I like pizza,” you would say “Pizza is pleasing to me.”

3 Conjugating Gustar Place one of these pronouns before gustar to say who likes something. ME gusta(n) I like TE gusta(n) you like LE gusta(n) he/she/ you like NOS gusta(n) we like OS gusta(n) you all like LES gusta(n) they / you all like

4 Por ejemplo: Me gusta comer (I like to eat)

5 Te gusta la música (You like the music)

6 Nos gusta (We like to do homework) hacer la tarea

7 Gusta vs. gustan When there is one thing/a verb being liked, use gusta
Me gusta la biblioteca. Te gusta hablar español When there is more than one thing being liked, use gustan - Nos gustan las uvas.

8 A ellas les gustan (They like computers) las computadoras

9 When gusta is followed by a verb, the verb must be in the
Infinitive (verb that is not conjugated) form. Ex: ser, tener, comer

10 To clarify WHO likes something, say: “A (nombre) le/les gusta”
*this only applies when talking about “le/les” (he, she, them)

11 A Juan le gusta (Juan likes to draw) dibujar

12 A los muchachos les gusta jugar al fútbol
(The guys like to play soccer) jugar al fútbol

13 A Alicia y a mí nos gusta preparar la comida
(Alicia and I like to prepare food) preparar la comida

14 When you want to really emphasize it, say…
“A mí me gusta…” “A tí te gusta…” Por ejemplo: A mí me gusta escuchar música. A tí no te gusta comer.

15 A mí me gusta andar en patineta (I like to skateboard)

16 A tí te gusta correr (You like to run)

17 Put the word “No” in front of the pronoun to say “don’t” or “doesn’t”

18 (I don’t like to prepare food)
No me gusta (I don’t like to prepare food) preparar la comida

19 Por ejemplo: A mí no me gusta trabajar (I don’t like to work)

20 A ella no le gusta (She doesn’t like to do homework) hacer la tarea

21 A él no le gusta He doesn’t like to practice sports practicar deportes
