12 BroughtonSpanish.weebly.com and Syllabus
It is your responsibility to go to our class’s website (broughtonspanish.weebly.com), print off the syllabus (if you want to), read and review it with your parents/guardian, and have your parent/guardian send me an (at the top of the syllabus).

13 Class Expectations

14 Rules for the classroom
*Be on time! Every day, when the tardy bell rings, I will close the door and begin class. If you arrive after the tardy bell, you must go to tardy sweep. You may not come back to class without a slip from the tardy sweep table (in front of the auditorium).

15 *No cell phones or iPods!
Your phones and iPods should be in the off position during class. If I see one, I take one. I love this game and I am VERY good at spotting texters! There are times when we will use cell phones in class activities, in which case I expect you to be on task. Using cell phones for class activities is a PRIVILEGE. Do not abuse it or you won’t do fun things!

16 *Respect the learning environment
This means respect the teacher, classmates, etc. Practice makes Perfect! The ONLY way you WON’T learn a language is if you stop trying

17 Grading In this class, you will be graded using the following types of assessments: PRACTICE (Homework, Classwork) Graded for completion, only worth 1-3 points PROCESS (Quizzes, Essays, any graded assignment) Graded for accuracy, but not worth as many points as a test (usually 10 or 15 points) PRODUCT (Tests, Projects) Graded for accuracy, usually cover multiple skills across a chapter or unit **You will be graded using a total point system.

18 Homework *Homework will be assigned most nights. You will receive 1 point for completed homework. Homework can only help your grade, it will never lower your grade. It is important to complete homework every night in order to practice the skills learned in class so that you will do well on quizzes and tests.

19 Classwork Classwork will be assigned during class. Sometimes it will taken up for a grade, sometimes it will not. Classwork in this class is never “busy work”. Everything we do is designed to help you develop the skills you need to successfully learn the Spanish language and Hispanic/Latino culture! (And therefore perform well on assessments.)

20 Quizzes *Expect lots of quizzes in this class! (Usually 2-3 per chapter, worth points each). You will always know what your quiz will be on. *There will also be online quizzes that you will need to complete for each chapter on If you do not do these online quizzes your grade will go down significantly!!

21 Tests *You will have a test every chapter. Tests will assess your mastery in: -listening comprehension -reading comprehension -written expression -speaking proficiency -cultural topics -grammar topics -vocabulary topics
