What is an Infinitive? Infinitives are the most basic form of a verb. They are the “generic” form  you don’t know WHOis doing the action or WHEN the action is occurring. In English, you can identify infinitives because they usually have the word “to” in front of them. Examples: to read to write to play Infinitives in Spanish are just one word and they always end in two certain letters: -ar, -er, -ir
