2 Ser and Estar The verbs ser and estar both mean “to be”, however we use these verbs in different situations. Before discussing their uses, we must know how they are conjugated in the present tense: Ser yo soy nosotros somos tú eres vosotros sois él/ella/Ud. es ellos/ellas/Uds. son Estar yo estoy nosotros estamos tú estás vosotros estáis él/ella/Ud. está ellos/ellas/Uds. están

6 Examples of the Uses of Estar
Position: El jardín está alrededor de la casa. Estoy cerca del campo. Location: Madrid está en España. Estamos en la clase de español ahora. Action: Estás escuchando al profesor. Los alumnos están estudiando para el examen. Condition: ¿Están Uds. enfermos? Estoy cansada hoy. Emotion: La muchacha está muy contenta. ¿Por qué estás triste?
