1 El Pasado de los verbos en Inglés
En inglés hay como quien dice tres grupos de verbos según el tipo de clasificación que hagamos: verbos principales que son a su vez auxiliares, y verbos que se clasifican en dos grupos según como hagan el pasado. Principales o auxiliares: Be, Do, Have Pasado con forma regular: añaden –ED al presente Pasado con forma irregular: be-was; do-did; have-had; buy-bought; bring-brought; bite-bit; come-came En preguntas y respuestas negativas: Do ó Does (presente) pasan los dos a : Did (pasado) y did sirve para todos los verbos menos para los auxiliares (+/-) Recordar que hay un cuarto grupo que son los verbos modales e incluso un quinto que son los phrasal verbs

2 PAST TENSES IN ENGLISH Auxiliary verbs: to be: was to have: had to do: did Verbs with past in -ED are called REGULAR: WANT, PAINT, WALK, LIKE, LOVE, DANCE, WORK Verbs with irregular past: CAN, CUT, DRIVE, EAT, FIGHT, FLY… Pedir a la clase que, si con los ordenadores, si con los libros, busquen las formas de pasado de los verbos irregulares, y construyan según la fórmula los pasados de los verbos regulares

3 Have in present = Have or Has
Affirmative “We have got three pets at home” Have we got three pets at home? We haven´t got three pets at home Make your own example now:

4 No, we didn´t have a cat and a dog last year, we had a cat and a bird
Have in past = HAD No auxiliary needed We had a cat and a bird last year -yes- Auxiliary in the past negative & interrogative Did we have a cat and a dog last year??? No, we didn´t have a cat and a dog last year, we had a cat and a bird Now make your own example:

They were students yesterday She is a mother today She was a daughter yesterday To do We always do homework We did homework yesterday He often does the housework He did the housework two days ago

6 To be //Was/ were & Do// Did
Interrogative & Negative Were you home last night? No, I wasn´t Was she in Belgium last year? Yes, she was No auxiliaries needed Interrogative & Negative Did they do their homework? No, they didn´t Did he do the housework? Yes, he did

7 VERB “DO” AS AUXILIARY Did your brother care? Do they play often?
PRESENT Do you eat breakfast everymorning? Does he care? Do they play often? I don´t usually eat breakfast He doesn´t care They don´t play often PAST Did you eat breakfast today? Did your brother care? Did they play when they were children? I didn´t eat breakfast today He didn´t care They didn´t play when they were children.

8 The REST of verbs Verbs changing their form
Draw, come, go, teach, be, buy, can, swim, run, And how they change: Draw____ drew Come____came Go______went Teach_____taught Can you continue the list? Verbs making the past with –ed Play, paint, study, like, love, look, listen, hire, happen, occur Can you continue the list?
