The past subjunctive is used after si (if) in hypothetical sentences (oraciones hipotéticas) that are contrary to fact or unlikely to happen. The conditional is used in the other clause. Si yo pudiera, trabajaría en un banco. If I could, I would work in a bank. Viajaríamos a México si tuviéramos más tiempo. We would travel to Mexico if we had more time.
