En Exodo 20, Pentecostes es 50 días después de la Pascua y la salida de Egipto. Ese día, en el Monte Sinaí Dios habló y dio el nuevo pacto de los 10 mandamientos. Moisés bajó del monte y encontró el becerro de oro, y quiebra las piedras, que significa quebrar el pacto. Después 3000 personas fueron matadas por su pecado.

En toda la historia de los judìos después, recordaban los 10 mandamientos, y creían que el Mesías vendría en ese día. Ese día, festejaban siempre en el Templo. Se leía parte de Ezequiel 10—por ejemplo, vv. 3- 4, 18-19 ¿Dónde estaban los querubines en el templo? ¿Qué pasaba con la presencia de Dios aquí?

30 Escaleras sureñas The Southern Steps
A wide staircase was constructed in front of the “Double Gate.” The staircase was originally 215 feet (65 m) wide, the western half of which is now covered by a medieval building. Some of the 30 original steps remain and others have been reconstructed. “The risers on the steps are quite low, between 7 and 10 inches, and the stair treads vary between 12 and 35 inches, requiring one to walk with a slow, measured gait, as if participating in a processional” (Shanks 1995: 143). These are probably the steps which are mentioned in the Talmud, and some of the sayings in the Talmud were reportedly delivered on these steps. “A Talmudic passage refers to Gamaliel (the teacher of the apostle Paul, Acts 22:3) and the elders standing on top of the stairs at the Temple Mount” (McRay 1991: 107). This is the grandest of all the approaches to the Temple Mount “and therefore indicates that this was the gate most used by the multitudes” (Ritmeyer 1996: 7). Psalms of Ascent Pilgrims in biblical times would sing the “Psalms of Ascent” as part of their approach to the Temple. The Psalms of Ascent are Psalms While it is not known exactly where these psalms would have been sung, some suggest that the pilgrims sang them at various stations on the roads leading to Jerusalem. Others believe that they were sung on a series of steps inside the Court of the Women. Another possibility is that the psalms were sung on this monumental staircase on the southern wall of the Temple Mount. In favor of this proposal is the fact that there are 15 wide steps, corresponding with the 15 Psalms of Ascent. It may be that these psalms were sung in many different places by different groups of pilgrims. It is also possible that the places in which they were sung shifted over the centuries. tb

The Triple Gate dates to a time later than King Herod, but the passageways leading from it to the Temple Mount platform are largely original. The triple-arched gate was reconstructed in the Umayyad period. Some believe that this gate was a triple-arched gate in Herod’s time; others believe it was originally a double gate. tb

Ritual Baths To date, more than 150 mikva’ot have been found in Jerusalem. Sixty of these are located in the Upper City (Western Hill) where the priestly families lived. Forty were found in the excavations on the southern side of the Temple Mount. “This room was converted into a ritual bath in the Second Temple period. Although its original shape was modified, its plan testifies to its belonging to the complex of shafts and rooms with chimneys. ¿Qué implicaría eso acerca del sacrificio de Cristo ya hecho? ¿Dónde está la presencia de Dios ahora? ¿Dónde es la última vez que vemos el Templo en la biblia? (Apoc. 21:22) Y Dios vivirá en medio de ellos (Apoc. 21:3)
