2 Notice in the following lines from episode 2 of “La Catrina” that one person is telling another person to do something. “¿Quieres algo de fruta? Ahí hay uvas, plátanos, manzanas. Toma lo que quieras.” “¿Llegó el norteamericano? Llámame.” “Discúlpame, pero ahora tengo que salir. Hablamos luego, ¿sí?” “Carlos, ¿dónde estás? Ven acá.” “Pero por esta noche descansa, supongo que estarás cansada del viaje.”

3 You have learned commands since Day 1 Spanish 1. The tú-form affirmative command does not have an s. It is the same as the Ud., él, ella form of present tense. Andar - Anda despacio. Correr - Corre rápidamente. Hablar – Habla español. Aprender – Aprende el vocabulario Abrir – Abre tu libro.

4 Stem changing verbs STILL have a stem change for the tú command (since they are like the él/ella form): Cerrar – Cierra la puerta. Entender – Entiende la lección. Dormir – Duerme ocho horas.

5 Eat the fruits! ¡Come las frutas! Sleep 8 hours a day! ¡Duerme ocho horas al día! Te toca a ti…

6 Cut the apple! ¡Corta la manzana! Open the book! ¡Abre el libro! Te toca a ti…

7 Reflexive pronouns must be attached to the affirmative commands. With tú commands, the reflexive pronoun is always te. Callarse – Cállate. Vestirse – Vístete Dile a tu compañero: Shave! Aféitate! Bath yourself! Báñate! Brush your teeth! Cepíllate los dientes!

8 Direct and indirect object pronouns are always attached to affirmative commands as well. Write to me – Escríbeme. Give him the book. – Dale el libro. Eat the carrots. Eat them. – Come las zanahorias. Cómelas. Invite Marcos. Invite him. – Invita a Marcos. Invítalo.

9 When you attach a pronoun to an affirmative command (of more than one syllable) you have to add an accent to keep the stress on the same syllable that was originally stressed. AprEnde el vocabulario. Apréndelo. Stress originally falls on the first e; that’s where it has to stay, so you add an accent.

12 There are eight main irregular tú form affirmative commands. Think about the Sal Pon story to help you remember them. Di – say/tell – decir Sal – leave, go out – salir Pon – put, set - poner Sé – be - ser Ve – go - ir Ven – come - venir Haz – do, make - hacer Ten – have - tener
