LOS VERBOS REFLEXIVOS

WRITE: What is a reflexive verb? A reflexive verb describes when a person doing an action is also receiving the action

WRITE: How can I identify a reflexive verb? A reflexive verb will have a “se” attached to the end of the infinitive form. Examples: Ducharse Bañarse Peinarse

WRITE: What does “se” mean? “Se” refers to the action being done to the same person that is doing the action. It can be translated as “oneself.” “Se” is called a REFLEXIVE PRONOUN. “Se” can be changed to different forms and can be moved to different places in a sentence.

READ: Can any verb be a reflexive verb? ¡¡NO!! You just have to memorize which ones are reflexive and which ones are not. Always look for the “SE” as your hint.

READ: IDENTIFY WHICH VERBS ARE REFLEXIVE: Afeitar Bañarse Ducharse Despertar Levantarse

WRITE (CHART ONLY): REFLEXIVE PRONOUN “SE” First of all, you must understand that the “se” can be changed depending on the person doing the action, just like our present tense verbs change according to the person. Here is a list of all the reflexive pronouns. ME (MYSELF) NOS (OURSELVES) TE (YOURSELF) X SE (HIMSELF, HERSELF, YOURSELF) SE (THEMSELVES, YOURSELVES)

WRITE: (CHART ONLY) So how do I use those with a verb? Our verbs will conjugate like they normally do in the present tense. Simply place the reflexive pronoun in front of the conjugated verb to create a verb tree. Me lavo (I wash myself) Nos lavamos (we wash ourselves) Te lavas (you wash yourself) X Se lava (he washes himself) Se lavan (they wash themselves)

READ: What does each sentence mean? Me lavo las manos. Lavo el carro. Me levanto a las ocho. Levanto a los niños a las ocho. Me despierto a las nueve. Baño el perro. Me baño.

READ: PLACEMENT OF REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS: Second of all, you need to understand that when we use these reflexive pronouns in sentences, there are certain rules you must follow. You cannot just put them anywhere you want. In fact, there are two rules you need to memorize.

WRITE: RULE 1- REFLEXIVE VERB BEFORE CONJUGATED VERB Just like the verb tree, place the reflexive pronoun in front of the conjugated verb. Remember, if the verb is a stem changer, stem changing rules STILL apply. Examples: Me levanto en la mañana Te despiertas a las tres Ella se baña muy temprano.

READ: PRACTICA: Fill in the blank with the correct reflexive pronoun for each sentence: 1.Timoteo ______ afeita por la noche. 2.Paola ________ seca el pelo. 3.Yo __________ corto el pelo. 4.La niña ________ pinta las uñas. 5.Tú ___________ bañas con agua frío.

READ: PRACTICA: Translation Translate these phrases into Spanish using rule 1: 1.I bathe at nine 2.You wake up at ten 3.Maria gets dressed at eleven 4.We brush our teeth at seven.

WRITE: RULE 2: REFLEXIVE PRONOUN ATTACHED TO THE INFINITIVE If the sentence has more than one verb it, and one of them is an infinitive, attach the reflexive pronoun to the infinitive. Examples: Yo quiero ducharme en la mañana. ¿Te vas a levantarte a las ocho? Ella necesita ponerse los zapatos.

READ: PRACTICA: Fill in the blank with the correct reflexive pronoun for each sentence: 1.Timoteo quiere afeitar_____ por la noche. 2.Paola necesita secar______ el pelo. 3.Yo voy a cortar______ el pelo. 4.La niña le gusta pintar______ las uñas. 5.Tú tienes que bañar______ con agua frío.

READ: PRACTICA: Translation Translate these phrases into Spanish using rule 2: 1.I have to bathe at nine 2.You are going to wake up at ten 3.Maria wants to get dressed at eleven 4.We have to brush our teeth at seven.
