Reflexive Verbs
Reflexive verbs are used to tell that a person does something to or for him- or herself.
Reflexive Verbs Reflexive verbs have two parts: a reflexive pronoun and a verb form.
Reflexive Verbs LAVARSE (to wash oneself) Verb Form Reflexive Pronoun
Reflexive Pronouns yo = me tú = te él, ella, = se ud. nosotros(as) = nos ellos, ellas = se uds.
LAVARSE me lavo te lavas se lava nos lavamos se lavan
CEPILLARSE (los dientes) to brush me cepillo te cepillas se cepilla nos cepillamos se cepillan
DUCHARSE (to shower) me ducho te duchas se ducha nos duchamos se duchan
PINTARSE (las uñas) to paint me pinto te pintas se pinta nos pintamos se pintan
Reflexive Pronouns They can either go before a conjugated verb or after an infinitive.
Reflexive Pronouns Before the verb: Me voy a lavar el pelo. After the infinitive: Voy a lavarme el pelo.
Stem-Changing Reflexive Verbs:
ponerse “Go” Verb (yo form)
acostarse O to UE
despertarse E to IE
vestirse E to I
sentirse E to IE
Other Reflexive Verbs
afeitarse to shave oneself
secarse to dry oneself
arreglarse (el pelo) to fix (one’s hair)
prepararse to prepare oneself to get ready
bañarse to bathe oneself
cortarse el pelo to cut one’s hair
lavarse (la cara) to wash one’s face
levantarse to get oneself up
