Spanish III

Sometimes you describe a noun with an adjective, and sometimes you use an entire clause to describe a noun, that is an adjective clause. The girl that is always dressed out of dress code. The blonde that has the big biceps. I need a student who listens. I’m looking for an apartment where there is a hot tub. ADJECTIVE CLAUSES

When you have a specific person or thing in mind, you use the indicative. When you don’t have a specific person or thing in mind, or you are not sure if they even exists, you use the subjunctive. Esta revista tiene un artículo que habla sobre los mayas. Busco un novio que tenga mucho dinero. ADJECTIVE CLAUSES

You also use the subjunctive in adjective clauses when it describes a negative word such as nadie, nada, or ninguno(a). No hay nadie que sepa hablar Latín. No existe nada que te pueda curar. NEGATIVES

To refer to someone or something unknown in the past, you can use the present perfect subjunctive. Busco alguien que haya estudiado portugués. No hay nadie que haya visto un extraterrestre. PRESENT PERFECT SUBJUNCTIVE
