El SUBJUNTIVO CLÁUSULAS ADJETIVALES

2 REPASO CLÁUSULAS SUSTANTIVAS (NOUN CLAUSES) A NOUN CLAUSE IS THE DIRECT OBJECT OF ANOTHER VERB. It answers the questions what or who with the verb in the main clause. What do I want? That you speak with Juan. Yo quiero que tú hables con Juan.

3 Adjetivos Un adjetivo modifica un sustantivo Mi novio es celoso.

4 Cláusulas adjetivales
Una cláusula puede servir como un adjetivo cuando describe el antecedente: Yo quiero un novio que no sea celoso. The dependent (adjective) clause describes the antecedent: un novio

5 1) When it is UNKNOWN if the antecedent exists.
¿Cuándo se usa? 1) When it is UNKNOWN if the antecedent exists. Adjective clauses describe something or someone that the speaker does not know of its existence: The unknown. Busco un novio que no sea celoso. ( I don’t know if he exists) The antecedent: un novio- is unknown.

7 Subjuntivo- The unknown
SIN EMBARGO…. (HOWEVER) If you are referring to someone/something who does exist…. You don’t use subjunctive- use the indicative. Busco al novio de Carolina. (he exists) Busco a la chica que habla francés. (she exists) Conozco a un chico que no es celoso. (I know him)

8 2) When the person or thing doesn’t exist. (negation)
Sometimes it feels like there is nothing /no one at all that has a particular quality: the non- existent (nadie; nada) No hay nadie que sea más arrogante que Alberto. No hay nada que me guste más que la clase de español.

9 3) There is a question whether the person or thing exists.
¿Conoces a alguien que sepa hablar diez lenguas? vs. ¿Conoces al profesor que sabe diez lenguas?

10 A practicar: 1. No hay nadie que (tiene, tenga) más problemas que Dolores. 2. Preferimos ir a un restaurante que no (sirve, sirva) comida rápida. 3. Necesito hablar con el estudiante que (sabe, sepa) hablar quechua. 4. Quiero casarme con un hombre que (es, sea) inteligente y aventurero. 5. Estoy buscando a la chica que (practica, practique) karate. ( )

11 ¿Conoces a alguien que (está/esté) de buen humor hoy?
Tengo un novio que (guarda/guarde) mis secretos. No hay nada que me (alegra/alegre) más que la amistad verdadera. Quiero confiar en alguien que (puede/pueda) resolver mis problemas. Mi hermano quiere una novia que no (es/sea) criticona. Cristina es muy graciosa; los chistes que (cuenta/cuente) son excelentes. No conozco a nadie que (confía/confíe) completamente en Marcos.
