A verb usually names theactionin a sentence. There are3kinds of verbs in Spanish.All verbs end in the letter rin Spanish. This form of the verb is called theinfinitive.

The infinitive meansto...For example, enseñar means to teach.The type of verbs we are going to learn about are called -arverbs. What do the following verbs mean in English? contestar to answermirar to watch descansar to restnecesitar to need

In Spanish, thelastletter or letters of the verb tells you who does the action. To change an infinitive to a form that tellswhois doing the action do three things: 1. Draw a box around the last 2 letters of the infinitive so that you can identify the stem. 2. Determine the subject of the sentence.

3. Knowing the subject, add the correct ending from the chart. This is called conjugating your verb! ¡Qué fácil!

To make a verb negative, simply add no before the verb. For example:She is not studying. Ella no estudia. When we ask a question in Spanish, we usually switch the subject and verb. For example:Does Juan study Spanish? ¿Estudia español Juan? ¿Tocan la guitarra ellos?
