Verbos reflexivos Definición: – Verbs that reflect back onto oneself – The thing doing the action (subject) also receives the action Apariencia: – “-se” after the –AR, -ER, -IR

Ejemplo: lavar y lavarse lavar – to wash (Yo) lavo el perro. I wash the dog. NOT REFLEXIVE – I am doing the action but the dog is receiving the action lavarse – to wash (oneself) (Yo) me lavo el pelo. I wash my hair. REFLEXIVE – I am doing the action and I am receiving the action.

¿Me lavo el pelo? O ¿Lavo el pelo?

¿Me lavo perro? O ¿Lavo el perro?

¿Qué más lavas? Piensa en objetos (objects things that are not part of me)  I wash clothes, I wash plates, I wash the car, I wash windows Lavo la ropa, lavo los platos, lavo el coche, lavo las ventanas. NOT REFLEXIVE – I am doing the action but the dog is receiving the action Piensa en el cuerpo (body parts that are attached to you)  I wash my hands, I wash my hair, I wash my face. Me lavo las manos, me lavo el pelo, me lavo la cara. REFLEXIVE – I am doing the action and I am receiving the action. The action is reflecting back onto the subject.

Conjugaciones: lavarse me lavo las manos te lavas las manos se lava las manos nos lavamos las manos se lavan las manos The me, te, se, nos, se forms are called pronombres reflexivos. They must be included.

Otra rutina de la mañana Juana se despierta a las 6:30, se levanta, va al baño, y se ducha. Ella se seca, se peina, y se pinta la cara. Did you remember to use a reflexive pronoun with despierta, levanta, ducha, seca, peina, and pinta? Did you remember to change the stem on despierta?
