July 11, 2007 First let me mention that there are parallels to this passage in Mark 6.7, Mark 3.13-19 and Luke 6.13-16. They are different versions of the same story. We see there is substantial agreement in content and in form, and numerous divergences in detail.

Primeramente hay que mencionar que hay paralelos para este pasaje en Marcos 6.7; 3.13-19, y en Lucas 6.13-16. Son diferentes versiones de la misma historia. Vemos que hay acuerdo substancial en contenido y en forma, aunque en los detalles hay varias divergencias.

Mark and Luke both say he went into the hills Mark and Luke both say he went into the hills. Luke says he did that in order to pray; and all night he continued in prayer to God. When it was day, he called the disciples. Before all his important decisions, Jesus prayed. There he was in union with the Father. “I do only what I see the Father doing,” he said (John 5.19).

The word disciple means learner The word disciple means learner. To be a disciple means you have taken upon yourself the discipline of the Master. You put yourself under his guidance. That means you are willing to learn. A man who has his mind closed to God cannot be his servant. He has to be open to learn something new every day. In Second Corinthians 10.4-5 Paul says we destroy strongholds; and take every thought captive to obey Christ. That is because we are his disciples. “We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle to the knowledge of God.”

In Segundo Corintios 10.4-5 San Paulo dice que hacemos todo pensamiento cautivo a obedecer a Cristo. They were to be called apostles They were to be called apostles. This word means one who is sent out; it is the word for an envoy or ambassador. They were to be Christ’s ambassadors to men. Mark 3. 14 says they were chosen to be with him Mark 3.14 says they were chosen to be with him. They were to be witnesses of all his great miracles. They were to hear all his teachings. And they would even get private lessons. They were to live in his presence, before they were to be sent to preach. There is an old Latin saying: non dat quod non habet. You cannot give what you do not have. They have to receive instructions before they can give them. As a result today all of the New Testament is approved by the Apostles. The Roman Catholic Church is apostolic, based on apostolic teachings.

All three gospels: Matthew, Mark, and Luke, agree in mentioning that Jesus gave the twelve apostles authority over unclean spirits. Matthew and Luke add that they were also to heal every disease and every infirmity. This was to be an important part of their ministry. They were to cast out Satanic powers, under which the present world groans. This would terminate all pain and sorrow and bring salvation for God’s people, as promised by the prophets.

Los tres evangelios (es decir Mateo, Marcos, y Lucas) concuerdan al mencionar que Jesús les dio a los doce apóstoles autoridad sobre los espíritus inmundos. Mateo y Lucas añaden que también se les concedió el poder de sanar toda enfermedad. Esto iba a ser una parte importante de su ministerio. (Acts 13.46) ” It was necessary that the word of God be spoken first to you. Since you thrust it from you, and judge yourself unworthy of eternal life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles.”

This is a good line to remember This is a good line to remember. We must try to live a life worthy of the Lord. This will keep us from getting smug and complacent in the things of God. Keep alert in prayer and good works. “Strive mightily (and be brave) and enter by the narrow gate.” (Luke 13.24) Es bueno recordar esto. Nos urge hacer el esfuerzo de vivir una vida digna del Señor.
