Community and Service Comunidad y Servicio

Requires students to take an active part in their community by encouraging responsible citizenship. Our students work hard to help meet the needs of their community and other countries. Last year our students raised $1400 for to help people suffering from genocide in Darfur. Requiere a estudiantes tomar una parte activa en su comunidad enseñadoles ciudadanía y responsabilidad. Nuestros estudiantes trabajan para ayudar a satisfacer las necesidades de su comunidad y de otros países. Service Hours/ Horas de Servicio Como parte de nuestro programa IB, se requiere que estudiantes hagan horas exteriores de servicio a la communidad y horas de servicio en la escuela. Proyectos Importantes del Ano Yearly Major Projects These projects all have a correlating MYP-IB rubric which is available at the Locke School web site. These projects help prepare students for the IB High School program which eventually will lead to the university level. Winter: Young Authors In the second quarter, your child will demonstrate their language arts writing skills by: Creating their own short story, poetry, or dramatic science. They will also be responsible for editing, illustrating, and publishing their work. They will receive the chance to be in the region competition. IB Reflection Journals At least once a week, students complete an IB Reflection Journal. Reflections should be completed in I.B. Composition Notebooks. Reflection journals are simply a way for students to think about the important concepts they learned in all subject areas (Lang. A, Math, Science, Humanities, and Specials) and reflect on them using the Areas of Interaction. Los estudiantes cada semana terminan un diario semanal de la reflexión de IB. Spanish Class- Language B The main purpose of this class is to expose students to a second language, and to understand other cultures. Students in 6th grade would learn the basics such as ABC, numbers, family, colors, exposed to cultural traditions. 7th grade students are going to learn about grammar and are exposed to Spanish readings. 8th grade students would do more projects about history, customs, traditions and culture of Hispanic countries. Benefits: Get in a good high school. Spanish grade is in their transfer records. Better opportunities in the future. El propósito principal de esta clase es exponer a estudiantes a una segunda lengua, y entender otras culturas. Los estudiantes en el 6to grado aprenderían los fundamentos tales como ABC, números, familia, colores, expuestos a las tradiciones culturales. Los de 7mo grado van a aprender sobre la gramática y se exponen a las lecturas españolas. Los de 8vo grado harían más proyectos sobre historia, costumbres, tradiciones y la cultura de países hispánicos. Ventajas: Consiga en una buena secundaria. El grado español está en sus expedientes de la transferencia. Oportunidades mejores en el futuro.

Homework #1 problem is students are not completing their homework assignments. Homework is given everyday in almost every subject area. Homework should be checked nightly for completion and neatness. Homework assignments can be checked via Locke School website. El problema #1 es estudiantes no está terminando sus tareas. Ellos reciben tareas todo los dias en varias materias. What does the agenda book look like? Qué parece el libro de la agenda? **The agenda is designed to help the student develop good organization skills. Homework is to be written down in the agenda book everyday. If a child is missing homework, the teacher will stamp the agenda book. The “Missing homework” stamp is written in red lettering. Watch out for scratched out “missing homework” in agenda. Students can try to hide the truth. La tarea debe ser anotada en el libro de la agenda diario. Incentive Program Programa Incentivo Cada 5 semanas estudiantes tienen la oportunidad de recibir una recompensa por todo su trabajo duro y esfuerzo. Los incentivos previstos incluyen un helado social, un viaje al parque zoológico y un día de campo, etc. Para ganar los incentivos los estudiantes deben: Reciba menos de 10 marcas en un período de cinco semanas. Tiene que tener A’s y B’s en su tarjeta de grados. Every 5 weeks students have the opportunity to receive a reward for all of their hard work and effort. Incentives planned include an ice cream social, a field trip to the zoo and a field day, etc. To win an incentive students must: Receive less than 10 checks in a five week period. Have all As and Bs on their report card or progress report

High School Fair/Secundaria When: September 29th Saturday Time: 9:30-3:00pm Where: McCormick Place Why: To obtain high school applications from all CPS high schools and to talk to high school officials who will answer your questions or concerns.
