Reglas del Imperfecto To express what used to happen Ex: Yo jugaba al tenis. To express what happened repeatedly in the past Ex: yo leía el periódico todos los días. To describe what was going on at a particular time Ex: Yo comía el desayuno en la mañana.

Reglas del Imperfecto To describe simultaneous actions in the past. Use Mientras to connect the two actions. Ex: Yo comía el helado mientras Elena leía el libro. To describe what was going on in the past (imperfect) when something else began or ended interrupting the first action.(preterite). Cuando usually links the two actions Ex: Yo comía la pizza cuando Elena entró a la casa.

Reglas del Imperfecto To describe people or things in the past To express time of day (hour) in the past. Ex: Eran las dos de la tarde cuando salía de casa (note: first action was not interrupted by any other action, so the verb after cuando stays in the Imperfect)
